If you’ve ended up on the Em + Elle marketing blog, one of two things is true. You’re a business owner who’s tired of marketing feeling like a guessing game, or you’re a fellow marketer who wants to connect with someone who doesn’t take herself too seriously. Either way: pull up a chair. This is going to be fun!
Who’s throwing this thing:
I’m Brooke, the founder of Em + Elle Marketing. For the past ten years, I’ve worked across home services, financial services, interior design, performing arts, sports, fashion, and construction, which sounds like a strange list until you realize the through-line isn’t the industry. It’s the shared moment! Every business owner I’ve worked with hit the same wall eventually: the referrals slowed down, the DIY social calendar stopped cutting it, and marketing went from “something I’ll figure out later” to “the thing standing between me and the next level.”
Em + Elle exists for that moment. We work like an in-house marketing team, minus the overhead, the six-week onboarding, and the awkward performance review. I get embedded in your business, learn how it runs day-to-day, and build marketing around your real goals rather than a template pulled from a marketing agency’s back catalog. No vendor distance, and no disappearing after the kickoff call.
Okay… are you entering your blogger era?
As a certified yapper, it only feels right to get everything out of my brain and onto digital paper in a marketing blog. So yes, here we are! I’m entering my ~blogger era~ for the same reason I built Em + Elle. Marketing has a reputation problem. Somewhere along the way, it became either painfully corporate (funnels, frameworks, and buzzwords that sound great but don’t really mean anything) or painfully vague (“just be authentic!” thanks, sooooo helpful). Neither version is true to what good marketing really is: a set of decisions, made with real data, that get you closer to the outcome you want. It can be strategic and fun at the same time. It’s supposed to be, I promise!
So this is where I’ll hand over pieces of how I think. This isn’t a highlight reel… It’s the actual mechanics, the frameworks I use with clients, the trends worth paying attention to, and the ones you can safely ignore.
Here’s what you can expect:
I’m building this marketing blog around a few different pillars, and I’ll be publishing new posts on a biweekly cadence (hellloooo atomic habits).
Marketing tips for business owners
You didn’t start your business to become a marketer, and you shouldn’t have to! These posts are built for the owner who wants to make smarter calls about their marketing without getting a second degree in it. Think practical checklists, plain-language explanations, and “here’s exactly what to do next” over jargon.
Marketing tips for fellow marketers
For the people already in the trenches (we’re in this together), I’ll get into the deeper stuff: how retainers should really be scoped, where the industry is shifting (AI search is changing more than people realize), and the perspectives I’ve picked up from running an agency built differently than most.
General resources
Frameworks, comparisons, and reference material meant to be bookmarked and revisited. Less “read once,” more “come back to this when you need it.”
Proof and process!
Real results, real breakdowns of what worked and what didn’t, and an honest look at how this business gets run behind the scenes.
A few things I believe about marketing…
- Data and personality aren’t opposites. You can track cost per acquisition religiously and still write copy that makes someone smile. The businesses that win long-term do both.
- Most marketing advice is generic because it’s afraid to be specific. “Post consistently” and “know your audience” aren’t wrong, they’re just too vague to act on. I’d rather give you one specific, slightly opinionated take than five safe ones.
- The best marketing partner tells you things you don’t want to hear. If every conversation with your marketing team is agreeable, someone isn’t doing their job. That goes for what I write here too.
- Fun is a strategy, not a decoration. Content and campaigns that people genuinely enjoy engaging with outperform the ones that are technically correct and totally forgettable. This shows up constantly in the data, not just in vibes.
What this marketing blog isn’t…
This isn’t a lead-gen funnel dressed up as helpful content, where every post exists purely to nudge you toward booking a call. Some posts will have a next step attached, because that’s honest about how a business blog works. Plenty of others won’t, because the insight is the point. If you read something here and never book a call with Em + Elle, that’s a completely fine outcome. I’d still rather you leave with something useful than leave with nothing at all.
Here’s what’s next!
Deeper-dive posts are on the way! But if any of this resonates and you want to talk about your specific situation, that’s what a discovery call is for. No pitch deck, no pressure, just a real conversation about where your marketing is and where it could be. You can also follow along on Instagram for the behind-the-scenes side.
Welcome to the party. I’m so glad you’re here!
